Our history

DogSledMan Since 1996 – Aosta Valley
A passion for the world of racing, a deep love for sled dogs, and an innate desire for adventure…

Fabrizio Lovati, after successfully completing the master instructor course, founded the Grandes Jorasses Sleddog School in Courmayeur (AO). Through his school, he introduced many enthusiasts to the world of sled dog racing, helping them become mushers and training magnificent huskies to pull sleds.

Over time, the Sleddog School opened its doors to beginners as well, allowing Fabrizio to share the thrill of driving a sled pulled by his huskies with tourists from all over the world who come to visit him in Courmayeur (AO).
Crowning his career, Fabrizio has also expanded his activities with a well-equipped fleet of winter vehicles, providing support for image and advertising services to those looking to capture the breathtaking beauty of the Aosta Valley’s natural landscapes.

WHO IS FABRIZIO LOVATI

Born in Milan but raised in Courmayeur, Fabrizio Lovati discovered and fell in love with the world of sled dog racing at just 13 years old, thanks to a neighbor who introduced him to this almost unknown sport in Italy at the time. His passion was immediate, driving him to compete season after season in national and then international races, achieving increasingly significant milestones.
Since 1990, Fabrizio has participated in over 100 competitions as an athlete for the Italian national team in mid- and long-distance categories. His impressive sports career includes:

4x ALPIROD – The 1000 km Alpine race
3x IDITAROD – “The Last Great Race” in Alaska (1800 km)
4x PIRENA – 400 km across the Pyrenees
3x ALPIRUSH – French Long-Distance Championship (Champion in
2001)
1x YUKON QUEST – Alaska
1x FINNMARKSLØPET 1000 – Norway
1x FEMUNDLØPET 400 – Norway
2x GRANDE ODYSSÉE – France
2x LEKKAROD – France
… and many more.

Fabrizio is also the only Italian to hold a Guinness World Record for reaching three 4,000-meter peaks with sled dogs.
His vast experience makes DogSledMan a benchmark for professionalism, skill, and expertise. Above all, safety and respect for the dogs are the core values of the center.

MUSHER’S SCHOOL

This sport has allowed Fabrizio to travel the world with his sled dogs, enriching his portfolio of experiences. Finland, Sweden, Norway, Spain, France, Patagonia, Montana, Alaska, and Canada—these are just some of the places that have contributed to Fabrizio’s professional growth. Upon returning to Italy, he applied his newfound knowledge to establish the first recognized Sleddog School.

Fabrizio Lovati’s Sleddog Center is supported by a team of veterinarians from ENVA (Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire d’Alfort) under the supervision of Professor Grandjean.

Since June 2000, the Racing & Training Center has also collaborated with the Veterinary University of Milan, particularly with their Center for Studies and Sports.

Fabrizio’s sled dog team is closely monitored by veterinarians throughout the year, not only during competitions but also to ensure their health and proper nutrition according to the varying demands of each season. This commitment ensures the dogs are in optimal condition, maintaining a high level of performance year-round.
